Available Adults
When our Adventure Mamas and Papas retire, you may find them here looking for their forever laps. Occasionally we do courtesy posts of available dogs / puppies from breeders we trust in the Arizona area. We are small and know that sometimes you are ready to bring home your new companion before we have anyone available, and we love connecting good people with good breeders.

Stormy

Go Home Date: NOW
Adoption Fee: $1200

After nearly two years with us, we're beginning the search for an exceptional forever home for our sweet Stormy. If you've followed Arizona Adventure Chihuahuas, you already know Stormy as the wonderful mama behind our past litters. Now retired from motherhood, it's her turn to be the center of someone's world. Stormy's story hasn't always been an easy one. She came to us at two years old after experiencing significant neglect and hardship. Understandably, she arrived fearful, undersocialized, and unsure whether people or other dogs could be trusted. The Stormy we know today is almost unrecognizable from the little dog who first came home with us. Over the past two years, she has made extraordinary progress. Through patience, consistency, training, and lots of opportunities to experience the world safely, Stormy has learned that she has choices, that new experiences can be fun, and that people aren't necessarily something to fear. She's gone from panicking at the presence of unfamiliar people to comfortably sharing a couch with guests, accepting tossed treats from new friends, and even choosing to snuggle up with a select few. She's learned to navigate unfamiliar situations with confidence and, perhaps most importantly, to trust that she can walk away when she's uncomfortable. And underneath all that early fear? One of the silliest, sweetest, most affectionate little dogs you could ever meet. Stormy is playful, goofy, and an absolute cuddle bug. She loves burrowing under blankets, snuggling with her favorite humans, and squeezing herself into impossibly small dog beds alongside her dog friends. She is also a *very* enthusiastic wearer of sweaters and jackets, which seem to give her an extra boost of confidence. She's an experienced little adventurer, too! Stormy has been camping, hiking, road-tripping, and even off-roading. She travels beautifully and enjoys being included in life's adventures. She's also a smart girl with a wonderful foundation of training. Stormy is crate trained, leash trained, and reliably potty trained in familiar environments. She knows a long list of commands, including sit, wait, come, leave it, kennel, go potty, and many more. What kind of home does Stormy need? Stormy isn't going to be the right dog for everyone, and that's okay. We're looking for someone who will appreciate her for exactly who she is while continuing to help her grow. Her ideal home will have: - **An experienced Chihuahua owner** who understands the breed, canine body language, and the importance of patience and positive, consistent training. - **At least one compatible canine companion.** Stormy needs another dog in her home. She can be apprehensive during initial introductions, but she develops wonderful, affectionate relationships with calm, friendly dogs once she feels safe. - **An adult household without young children.** Stormy has spent time around children and has learned to coexist with them, but she will thrive in a quieter, more predictable home. - **Someone committed to continuing her confidence building.** She's come an incredible distance, but her new family will need to respect her boundaries, allow her to warm up at her own pace, and recognize that unfamiliar environments can still be stressful. - **Lots of affection, cozy blankets, and preferably an excellent sweater collection.** Stormy may not immediately greet you like an old friend. Her affection is something you earn through trust, patience, and consistency. But once you're one of *her people*, you get to experience an incredibly devoted, silly, loving little dog. A note about her adoption We will be extremely selective about Stormy's placement. She is deeply loved, safe, and happy here. We are not rehoming her out of necessity, and there is absolutely no deadline for finding her a family. We simply believe that, with the right person or family, Stormy could have an even more wonderful life as someone's cherished companion. Any potential home will undergo a thorough screening process, and finding the right fit will always take priority over finding a home quickly. If that home takes months to find, that's perfectly fine. And if it never comes along, Stormy will always have a place with us. We aren't looking for just any home. We're looking for *her* home. If you think you might be the right person for Stormy, we'd love to hear from you and learn more about the life you could offer her.
